Detached Stone Annex
This annex began life as a barn before becoming a games room. The current owners wanted to provide an annex for a relative to live in. After planning permission, it became clear that much of the structure needed to be demolished and rebuilt.
The brief
This annex began life as a barn before becoming a games room. The current owners wanted to provide an annex for a relative to live in. After planning permission, it became clear that much of the structure needed to be demolished and rebuilt.
What we did
Although most of the finished annex is a new-build structure, it was built using stone salvaged from the original barn and laid in lime mortar. Feature Douglas fir roof trusses, constructed on site, add character to the vaulted ceilings.
The result
Modern insulation levels provide a comfortable two-bedroom living space for independent living close to family support — proof that ancillary accommodation can be attractive, practical and comfortable.
